Families and Youth Can Explore the Forever Forest to Learn About the Importance that Trees Play in our Everyday Lives

Don’t just sit inside this holiday season while your students are home for the holiday break, go outside and explore the wilderness. At the Midland Center for the Arts, they are bringing creativity and imagination to families looking to explore Midland history through the current exhibit, Forever Forest.

Starting as a lumber town with thousands of trees, Midland’s logging industry was and still is an important resource for the entire United States. Forever Forest allows children and adults to learn, through hands-on activities, the different aspects of the forest and how it plays an important role in our lives. From the forest to your home, this exhibit helps children learn about where wood comes from, how it’s processed and transported and all the ways it can be used.

While you are looking for educational opportunities for your kids to stay warm in Michigan’s winter climate, revisit your memories of vibrant green trees and our natural environment with this temporary exhibit. Designed for families with preschool and early elementary-aged children, Forever Forest will be on display at the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art at the Center through Jan. 12, 2020.

“It’s exciting to imagine walking through a lush forest, exploring the origins of trees and the animals that live there, and driving a locomotive carrying the trees to our local community,” said Julie Johnson, Director of Museums. “This hands-on interactive exhibit brings the outside into our museum where families can experience this unique exhibit while staying warm indoors over the holiday break.”

The exhibition is included in your admission to the museum, free for museum members, $10 for adults, $7 for kids ages 4 – 14, and free for kids under 3. While at the museum, explore three levels of hands-on activities in the Hall of Ideas and get a sneak peak of the newest exhibit, Goosebumps the Science of Fear. Play in the Young Explorer’s corner of the museum, implement STEM-based learning in our Spark!Lab and celebrate the new year at the museum’s New Year’s Eve party with our Balloon Drop at 12 noon.
